Latest Covid-19 figures show a spike in confirmed cases in Dacorum

There have been 24 new positive Covid-19 tests in Dacorum in the last 24 hours, the total for the borough is now 840, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

There were 198 new cases in Hertfordshire, the total is now 6,945.

There has been one new death of a patient testing positive for Covid-19 in Dacorum and three new deaths in Hertfordshire. The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic of people who had a positive test result for COVID-19 and died within 28 days of the first positive test in Dacorum is now 95, in Hertfordshire it is now 864 deaths.

There have been 561,815 lab-confirmed cases in the UK, rising by 17,540.

The number of Covid-19 associated UK deaths has been recorded as 42,592, rising by 77 - according to Public Health England.

Nationally, the death toll has been 'recalculated' by officials. The new count is based on a new definition of who has died from Covid-19.

Previously, people in England who died at any stage following a positive test, regardless of the cause of their death, were counted in the figures.

However, there is now a cut off point of 28 days from the first laboratory-confirmed positive COVID test.

The figures for the number of patients recovered from Covid-19 have not been released by Public Health England.

The new figures were recorded between 5pm on Tuesday, October 6, and Wednesday, October 7.
