Hertfordshire residents given personal 'thank you’s' as door-to-door testing comes to an end

Almost 10,000 COVID-19 tests have been completed in the EN10 area of Broxbourne in just over a week (since 2 February), with the project now coming to an end.

This is part of a national programme of testing following an isolated number of the new South African variant of COVID-19 being recently confirmed within this postcode area.

Currently, 92 of the completed tests in EN10 since the start of the extra testing process have been found to have been positive of COVID-19 and those residents will now be self-isolating. NHS Test and Trace will be following up with these people, and local contact tracing will take place, as per usual.

None of these positive cases have yet been found to have had the South African variant, although further laboratory tests are still ongoing and could take several more days.

The door-to-door activity will be coming to an end today (10 February 2021), and the facilities to pick up a home testing kit at these sites will be closing on the same date: Wormley Community Centre will remain open until 7pm if you were unable to return your test to Hoddesdon Library which closed for this purpose at 2pm.

If you are an EN10 resident and are yet to be tested, you can book a test online at one of the drive or walk-through test sites.

Jim McManus, Director of Public Health for Hertfordshire County Council, said: “Our residents in the EN10 area of Broxbourne have been absolutely fantastic.

"They have helped bring infection rates down, and they have proactively used the testing routes available to them.

“I would like to offer a personal ‘thank you’ to every single one, of the thousands of people, who has completed a COVID-19 test. You really have made a difference.

“We are still likely to see a further increase in the positive test results in EN10 but, so far, have not received any figures relating to the South African variant, which may still take time to process.”
