Tring Park School to challenge some A Level grades

The Principal of Tring Park School for the Performing Arts has announced the school's A Level results today, which he says are 'strong results for some, but not a fair reflection of students' efforts in all subjects' at the school.

With the coronavirus pandemic preventing students from sitting exams this year, the results are based on teacher assessment grades which have been standardised.

Principal Stefan Anderson said: "I have huge admiration for the students, who completed their full timetable remotely, despite the challenges of lockdown.

"Our students have coped admirably with an uncertain and upsetting time, and it is disappointing that some of our students' academic grades have been marked down.

"We are exceptionally proud of what the students have achieved and of their positivity in the face of adversity."

Students leaving Tring Park this year will be going to a variety of destinations at prestigious academic and vocational schools throughout the world, including Sorcha Kahn, who will be reading History at Cambridge, Olivia Foskett, who will be reading English Literature at Manchester, Oliver Williams who has been accepted to ICMP for Popular Music Performance - Drums, Louis Swanepoel, who will be reading Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol, Mia Rose, who has a place to read Bio-medical Studies at UCL and Montana Ingrassia Hancock, who will be reading English with Creative Writing at Royal Holloway.

Head of Sixth Form Edward Hawkins said: "Students in 2020 have not only had the school's usual challenge of a dual curriculum, as they have to manage their performing arts training alongside their academic work, but also the unprecedented circumstance of a global pandemic.

"Their resilience and positivity has impressed and moved the teaching staff in equal measure, and we are so very proud of them.

"I would also like to pay tribute to the teaching staff themselves, who went above and beyond this year to ensure that the experience for these students was as fulfilling as it could be, despite the circumstances."

Tring Park's Class of 2020 has an impressive alumni to aspire to with the likes of Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who started her training on the dance course at Tring Park, Lily James (Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, Disney's Cinderella, Downton Abbey and War and Peace), Jessica Brown-Findlay (Downton Abbey) and director and choreographer Drew McOnie, who has enjoyed huge success as a choreographer and director in the West End and on Broadway.

Tring Park School is both a day and boarding school for students aged eight to 19.

Alongside a broad academic curriculum, the school offers courses in dance, acting and musical theatre to learners up to the age of 16.

Sixth Form students are able to study Acting, Musical Theatre and Commercial Music up to age 18 while dancers can take a three-year course, graduating at age 19.
