£11.90, Mamas & Papas
Best for: The cute factor
Key specs – Material: 100% cotton; Sizes: Newborn to 4 years old; Machine washable: Yes
This design was a crowd-pleaser, winning compliments and “awws†from other parents and passers-by. The Christmassy red colourway matched with the ‘little pudding’ slogan and picture makes this a suitably festive option, without losing out on style. It’s easy to pull on and off, with three buttons at the back, and it’s soft against delicate skin. It’s a warm option, too, and one you won’t regret buying for your little pudding.
From £14, Next
Best for: Mini fashionistas
Key specs – Material: Acrylic, nylon mix; Sizes: 3 months to 6 years old; Machine washable: Yes
What child isn’t obsessed with llamas at the moment? This on-trend Christmas knit scores highly when it comes to style but also brings a suitable amount of festive cheer. The fury llama has a 3D winter hat and a pom pom for a tail, which kids will love playing with. It’s warm too, and will please even the most fussy mini fashionistas.
£23, JoJo Maman Bébé
Best for: A stylish knit
Key specs – Material: Viscose, nylon, wool and cashmere mix; Sizes: 6 months to 5 years old; Machine washable: Yes
Our mini tester looked adorable in this stylish Rudolph cardigan and didn’t want to take it off at bedtime. You can tell there’s cashmere in the mix of material too, as this was the softest one on test by far. It fits well and is true to size, while we loved the bright yellow colour, which also means you can get away with wearing it past December. Look after it, and it can be handed down to younger siblings.
From £9, Asda
Best for: Those on a budget
Key specs – Material: Acrylic, polyester mix; Sizes: 5 to 13 years old; Machine washable: Yes
You can always rely on Asda’s George range to bring you Christmas knitwear on a budget and we thought this jumper with a fluffy Rudolph wearing a Santa hat, complete with 3D pompom, was a great option for both teens and smaller children. It’s not too thick either, so you won’t overheat wearing it and it can be used as an extra layer when venturing outdoors. George has a lovely festive range of jumpers for all ages (including adults), so make sure you take a look and pick your favourite.
From £12, Marks & Spencer
Best for: Christmas spirit
Key specs – Material: 100% cotton; Sizes: 3 months to 7 years old; Machine washable: Yes
Covered in winter-themed animals, this jumper also has 3D pom poms and berries, as well as soft fur for kids to enjoy touching. M&S is known for quality and this jumper feels durable, and will make a great hand-me-down to smaller members of the family. We love its unisex design too and that dirt is hidden by the festive green colourway. This is a strong contender for little ones who enjoy getting messy in the great outdoors.
£18, Not On The High Street
Best for: Slogan designs
Key specs – Material: Cotton, polyester mix; Sizes: 3 to 13 years old; Machine washable: Yes
Lovetree Design produces personalised clothing in the West Midlands and we think this ‘is it too late to be good?’ slogan jumper is ideal for any naughty little ones expecting a visit from Santa this year. Coming in three colours (black, grey or red), the unisex design means it can be worn by multiple children throughout the festive season, too. It’s not too thick either, so you can use it as an extra layer outdoors or wear it inside without suffering from overheating.
From £15, John Lewis
Best for: Older kids
Key specs – Material: Cotton, nylon, wool mix; Sizes: 2 to 12 years old; Machine washable: Yes
If your child is too cool for a slogan jumper or novelty knit, this subtly festive jumper might be the one for them. It can be dressed up or down to suit both more formal family parties or general wear, and the wool mix means it will keep you warm. John Lewis has a lovely range of Christmas jumpers, so if this one isn’t for your little one, there are plenty more options.
From £30, Boden
Best for: A classic cardigan alternative
Key specs – Material: Cotton, wool mix; Sizes: 3 months to 4 years old; Machine washable: Yes
Another festive cardigan, but this time from Boden. The two mini Christmas trees sit on either side of the cardigan and add a stylish splash of Christmas spirit. It’s soft, warm and can be thrown over dresses or used as an extra layer. It’s the ideal knit to put little ones in on Christmas Day, too. There’s a snowman design available, if you’d prefer.
Best for: Disney lovers
Key specs – Material: Cotton, polyester mix; Sizes: Newborn to 24 months; Machine washable: Yes
For tiny tots obsessed with Disney, or more specifically Minnie Mouse, you can personalise this jumper with a name for an additional £3.95. The Disney Store’s thick, warm pullover can also be found in women’s sizes and there’s a Donald Duck option for men, so you can kit out the whole family in Disney gear if you wish. We love the fluffiness of this jumper and Minnie’s sparkly bow. Any little one will look extremely cute in this design, which you can also wear past Christmas Day.
Best for: Wearing all winter
Key specs – Material: Acrylic, polyamide, polyester mix; Sizes: 3 to 12 years old; Machine washable: Yes
If you’re looking for something that can be worn for longer than a month or two, this design from Joules will last the whole winter season. The Fair Isle pattern is a subtle nod to the Christmas period but still keeps things stylish. It’s fairly soft to the touch and will keep little ones warm as the temperature continues to drop. We think this is a high-quality buy that can be worn again and again.
Best for: Personalisation
Key specs – Material: 100% cotton; Sizes: 1 to 2 years old; Machine washable: Yes
Ok, so this isn’t actually a jumper (or a cardigan), but this long-sleeved top is ideal for those who want to personalise their little one’s festive clothing. You can add up to 11 letters to the bottom of the top, so your child can become part of the Elf Squad, too. Although marketed for boys, we don’t see why girls can’t wear this either. It’s soft against skin and a good lightweight option for running around indoors in.
