A new hub, soft play and cafe for the community is opening in Hemel Hempstead this week.

Nu-World, which was created by three mums, has been described as a place for everyone to enjoy with dedicated play areas for babies and toddlers, and a cafe area for parents and carers.

Ren, Anne-rose and Ola wanted to create a boutique setting that was fun for the children and parents, and after viewing the premises in Peacock Court, they fell in love with the location and open space.

Nu-World is opening the community space on Ringlet Road, on Wednesday, February 17, and will be offering a takeaway service during lockdown. Once restrictions have eased they will open the other services.

Ren said: "We have been working on the development of the hub since last July and we have put our, blood, sweat and tears in to making it amazing for the community.

"As Hemel Hempstead is a melting pot of mixed cultures, we wanted to create a setting that was not only inclusive, accessible to all but also fun.

"The unit has been empty for two years so when we started moving things in and the sign went up, people were interested in what was going on. This hub is for everyone in the community.

"We wanted to create a comfortable venue that could be somewhere that you were able to sit, relax and catch up with your family and friends, and be the heart of the community.

"Due to the national lockdown we can only offer a takeaway service at the moment and so we would like to offer all readers 5% off there orders, with this article and 10% off all bookings made to attend the hub when we open quoting HG01.

"All bookings can be made online, and when we are allowed to open for people to come in, they will also need to pre-book tables or sessions, to ensure that we can maintain social distancing inside the venue."

One of the mums thought a survey would help them understand what the community thought was essential to them and what they would like to see. From that survey, they put together the following services:

Nu-World is also running a programme to provide boxes of basic food, toiletries, and cleaning products, to households in need, the organisation also has a hot meal programme.

A spokesperson for Nu-World said: "Our additional services of our hot meal programme which is being part sponsored by our councillor Ms Colette Wyatt-Lowe, is our way of supporting and giving back to our community.

"Whilst the essential care packages, helps support people who have been affected financially by Covid-19 and is being funded by the National Lottery.

"This came about as we realised that some people who didn't meet the criteria set by certain food banks, or other bodies supporting people affected by the pandemic, but were also in need were not getting the support or help they needed.

"With our boutique cafe setting, there will be a heavy emphasis on home-made food, including a wide selection of bagels, baguettes and deli sandwiches as well as oven-baked dishes and a wide selection of hot drinks.

"There will be something for everyone, including healthy, tasty meals for children, and vegetarian and vegan options as well.

"All these amazing dishes will be available for contactless pick up and collection. All of this freshly these including a range of homemade cakes and puddings.

"This is something really exciting for the town, we look forward to seeing you all and welcoming you into the hub once we are able to fully open to the public.

"If you are looking for work, love working with children, or volunteer your time, please get in touch."
