A supermarket chain has submitted plans for a new store in Hemel Hempstead.

Lidl has applied for permission to build a food store - which will be the first Lidl in the town - on vacant land at Jarman Fields.

The Planning Statement submitted to Dacorum Borough Council says: "Avison Young is instructed by Lidl Great Britain Limited (Lidl) to submit an application for full planning permission for the construction of a limited assortment discount food store, car parking and associated works at a vacant development site on land at Jarman Fields, St Albans Road, Hemel Hempstead.

"The site comprises land that was formally a landfill site and is now vacant scrub land.

"The proposals seek to redevelop the site and construct a well-designed development at a prominent site at the entrance to Jarman Fields Retail Park and on an arterial route into Hemel Hempstead.

"The proposals will create employment during the construction period and will provide approximately 20 new full-time equivalent jobs once the store is operational.

"The design of the food store is simple and modern. It will be located along the site’s southern and eastern boundary, with a glazed frontage facing the wider retail park and Jarman Way, and the store entrance will be located at the north eastern corner of the building where it is most accessible to pedestrians.

"The proposals also include 130 parking spaces, which will be accessed via the existing access with Jarman Way."

In the Design and Access statement it says: The proposal briefly comprises:

- a new high quality A1 Lidl food store with a GEA of 2,595 sqm and a net sales area of 1,662sqm.

- 130 car parking spaces (including 10 disabled spaces, 12 parent and child and 2 electric vehicle spaces)

- an attractive hard and soft landscaping proposal

- The proposal will create 40 jobs, split equally between full and part-time positions."

A spokesperson for Lidl said: "We are delighted to confirm that we have submitted a planning application for a new Lidl store on Jarman Way in Hemel Hampstead.

"If granted this would mark a multi-million pound investment in the area, and the creation of new jobs when the store opens. We look forward to receiving a decision in due course."

The plans can be viewed on Dacorum Borough Council's planning portal, the planning reference is 21/01018/MFA.
