Sir Mike Penning MP has welcomed Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak MP’s Plan for Jobs to help businesses bring staff back from furlough, create new jobs, and invest in skills to help people get on in their careers.

In addition, the Chancellor has cut VAT for hospitality businesses for the rest of the year and introduced a landmark Eat Out to Help Out discount scheme to encourage people to support local restaurants.

The Government is also cancelling stamp duty for houses up to £500,000 which will help people get on or move up the property ladder.

Sir Mike said: “This pandemic has had a devastating effect on our national and local economies.

"I commend the Chancellor’s wide ranging and varied support package to help protect jobs during this phase of the recovery.

“I am confident that our local businesses will make the most of these schemes to save as many local jobs as possible and create new opportunities.

"We must do everything we can to support local businesses and the Eat Out to Help Out voucher is a great way for all of us to do our bit.”
