Black Carrera bike with distinctive purple handlebars stolen during Hemel Hempstead robbery

Two men threatened a victim before pushing him off his bike and taking it in a robbery in the underpass by the Riverside shopping centre.

Detectives investigating the robbery in Hemel Hempstead town centre, which happened between 2.20pm and 2.40pm on Bank Holiday Monday (May 31) are appealing for information and witnesses.

The male victim was riding his bike when he was approached by two men who tried to engage him in conversation.

They then threatened him before demanding he hand over his bike, a black Carrera with distinctive purple handlebars.

The victim attempted to cycle off but one of the men pushed him off the bike and managed to grab it before both offenders left in the direction of the town centre.

Both offenders were described as white, aged in their late teens, and wearing black ‘man bags’.

The first offender had blond hair, was around 5ft 7in tall and was of slim build. He was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms with a top.

The second offender had dark-coloured hair, and was around 5ft 8in tall. He was wearing a black Nike tracksuit with the hood up, and white Nike Air Force trainers.

DC Maisie Ashwood, from the Dacorum Local Crime Unit, is investigating. She said: “Thankfully the victim was not injured as a result of the robbery but he was left in shock following the incident.

“We have already carried out extensive enquiries since we received this crime report, and we are now appealing to members of the public for information and witnesses.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident.

"We have also released a photo of a bike that is very similar to the one stolen.

"Perhaps you have seen the bike for sale on social media, or abandoned somewhere?

“We have issued an image of a bike that is very similar to the one owned by the victim, only it has distinctive purple handlebars. If you have any information, please get in touch.”
