Waterside Autumn Programme is full of music

Exciting musicals to suit many tastes are on the bill in the Waterside Theatre’s autumn season.

The spectacular Broadway and West End phenomenon Jersey Boys tops the list and arrives in September (Tuesday 22 - October 3), and as I have already seen this show in Oxford I can confirm the endless hits are performed flawlessley.

It wasn’t until I saw the show that I realised just how many hits Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons have had,and the show had everyone in the audience literally tapping their feet throughout to songs including Walk Like A Man, Big Girls Don’t Cry, December 1963 (Oh What A Night), Sherry and My Eyes Adored You.

Later in October (26 -31) the ever popular Priscilla Queen of the Desert returns for another colourful visit to the Waterside, with Jason Donovan again taking the role of Tick.

During its last residency members of the Waterside staff told me that the flamboyant, outrageous and enormous costumes took up more space in the dressing rooms and backstage coridors than even the pantomimes do.

The Full Monty arrives in November (23-28), with Gary Lucy a former Waterside panto star, who might be better suited to this role than he was when he played Prince Charming in Cinderella.

The Full Monty famously tells the story about unemployed Sheffield steelworkers who take to stripping to make a bob or two.

Inbetween the shows there are plenty of other musical treats on offer with the premiere of newly married Vincent Simone, who recently wed his partner Susan, dancing with his professional partner Flavia Cacace in their farewell theatrical dance show The Last Tango (September 17-19).

The couple told me earlier this year that they will continue to work together on other dance projects, but their final theatre tour will prove to be very emotional.

Thriller Live, a show always guaranteed to excite the senses, returns (October 19-24) with an incredible cast sensationally replicating the moves, the music and the showmanship of the King of Rock, Pop and Soul, Michael Jackson.

Opera lovers will enjoy Tosca (October 17), the first of a season of three operas coming to the theatre through to April next year.

And then in December, everything stops for the annual pantomime, Dick Whittington (December 11 - January 3), which stars X Factor winner Sam Bailey as Fairy Bowbells, X Factor finalist Melanie Masson as Queen Rat and Aylesbury’s own superstar, Andy Collins as Idle Jack.

To book tickets for any of these shows , call into the theatre on Exchange Street in Aylesbury or phone the box office on 0844 871 7607, or buy online at www.atgtickets.com/aylesbury
