Under the moon of love with Showaddywaddy

There have been more changes in the band’s personnel since 2008 than at any other time in Showaddywaddy’s history, culminating in the retirement of the charismatic front man Dave Bartram in December 2011.

But original members Romeo Challenger and Rod Deas remain with the band and are on the road in the new Showaddywaddy line up.

And Dave is still very much a part of the band as the manager. Prior to the band’s visit to Watford Colosseum on Friday September 18, Dave is popping into town in a couple of week’s time to meet some friends of the theatre and read extracts from his book All Mapped Out, so keep your eyes open and you might just see him around town.

The book reveals Dave’s recollections of touring with the band, during which time he visited all the cities of the UK, each with its own tale to tell.

Dave will return to the Colosseum with the band members in September when their dynamic and uplifting live show will feature all their biggest hits, including Under The Moon Of Love, Three Steps To Heaven and Pretty Little Angel Eyes.

Watford Colosseum director David Mansfield said: “The 1970s wouldn’t have been the same without Showaddywaddy. We’re delighted to be welcoming them back with a show which is certain to be a real party.”

Showaddywaddy was formed in Leicester in 1973 from two groups, Choise and Golden Hammers. This led to an eight-member band, with the unusual feature of having two vocalists, two drummers, two guitarists, and two bassists. Their success came from a mixture of original material and covers.

With their combination of instrument players - two of everything - the band had great flexibility on stage with four or five members playing instruments and the others doing their energetic famous dance routines.

That vitality is still very much in evidence in the new line-up, and a special night is on the cards.
