Top stage shows to be at cinema for cheaper

Empire has announced its November line-up of arts and live performance screenings available nationwide at its cinemas – including the one in Hemel Hempstead.

From musical theatre to opera, comedy and ballet, enthusiasts will get to to enjoy screenings of their favourite productions.

The cost of attending the shows – broadcast as part of the Empire Extra programme – will be just at a fraction of the theatre ticket price.

Some showings will even be screened live at the same time as the action taking place on stage, meaning cinema-goers needn’t miss a moment.

As part of the National Theatre’s 50th anniversary celebrations, NT Live’s 2011 broadcast of Frankenstein Encore will be screened for a second consecutive month on Friday, November 14.

It was directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, of Sherlock fame, and Jonny Lee Miller, who was Sick Boy in 1996 Brit flick Trainspotting.

Acclaimed filmmaker Randall Wright’s Hockney: Live from LA will be screened in Empire Cinemas on Saturday, November 25.

For the first time, definitive artist David Hockney has given access to his personal archive of photographs and film, resulting in an unparalleled visual diary of a long life.

Straight to the cinema, live from the Royal Opera House on Wednesday, November 26, is three-act romantic comedy L’elisir D’amore, conducted by Daniele Rustioni and directed by Laurent Pelly. Containing the perfect blend of sentiment and tomfoolery, this great piece boasts the starry cast of Lucy Crowe, Vittorio Grigolo and Levente Molnár.
