Steam along to club’s rail show

If you like to see model railways in action, then the place to go on Saturday, April 18, is Luton Model Railway Club’s latest exhibition, which being held in Hitchin.

The club’s O Gauge section will be staging an exhibition the Christchurch Hall in Bedford Road, Hitchin, SG5 1HF. (opposite Waitrose).

There will be 12 O Gauge layouts (one is pictured) to enjoy. An O Gauge test track (fine scale only) will be available and visiting locomotives will be welcome (no live steam).

In addition there will be up to six traders, together with information stands from preservation societies.

A club spokesman said: “We are holding the exhibition in Hitchin because it has been some time since one has been held in the town, to encourage people of all ages to take-up railway modelling, and to celebrate that Hitchin was an important railway junction with its own steam locomotive shed.”

The exhibition takes place between 10.30 am and 5pm and will be opened by Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden.

Admission is adults £4, child (under16 years) £2, family (2 adults+3 children) £10. No concessions available.

Light refreshments will be available at the event.
