Organ recital at All Saint’s Church

THE next organ recital at All Saints Church, Leighton, is on Wednesday, at 8.00pm. It is being given by South African born Kevin Vockerodt, an accompanist to the Leighton Buzzard Festival Singers, who lives in Milton Keynes.

Kevin was born in South Africa and began piano tuition at the ages of five following it, eight years later, with organ lessons. He made his debut as a concerto soloist at the age of nine and won a number of awards at national level on both piano and organ.

In 1997, he was awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, where he studied the piano with the late Yonty Solomon, and the organ with Timothy Bond and Margaret Phillips.

Kevin has given numerous recitals and performances as both soloist and accompanist, throughout England, Europe, South Africa and the USA. He has worked as an accompanist and repetiteur for the Carl Rosa Opera Company and has given music coaching at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Arts Educational drama school, London. Kevin has had a number of choral compositions published, and has edited and arranged music for the Royal College of Organists and St Michael’s Church, Cornhill, in the City of London, including rarely-performed works by Merbecke and J C Bach.

He has worked as an accompanist for a number of choirs and with conductors such as Simon Joly, Bob Chilcott, Jonathan Willcocks and Sir David Willcocks. He is Head of Keyboard at Beechwood Park School, Hertfordshire,
