Folk fans sure of a treat as festival plans packed weekend

Top national and local performers are on the bill for the St Albans Folk Festival 2013, along with finalists from a New Roots search for musicians and singers under the age of 25.

The festival weekend kicks off on Saturday, June 22, with a day of free live music capped by a festival concert featuring top names on the folk scene, while Sunday is dedicated to dance.

Saturday’s music programme is centred around the Old Town Hall from 10am to 6pm.

The evening concert, which begins at 7.30pm, will feature Hannah James and Sam Sweeney who play predominantly English songs and tunes on accordion and fiddle, and their live show includes Hannah’s renowned high-energy clog dancing.

Also on the bill is James Findlay, who first sang in St Albans as a New Roots 2009 finalist and then went on to win the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award the following year.

Support will be provided by Sally Barnes, winner of Watford Folk Club’s Song for Hertfordshire competition and by a local band, Whin Latter, who were New Roots 2013 finalists

Tickets for the festival concert cost £12 with £10 student concessions and are available from St Albans Tourist Information Centre – call 01727 864511 or visit the website at www.allaboutstalbans.com
