Film Review with Matt Adcock

The ‘wrongest’ teenage boys of the UK are back – with a bad-taste big screen bang that makes the first film and the TV series’ look positively tame… Yes posh nerd Will Mackenzie (Simon Bird), nice but dim Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison), sex-mad wide boy Jay Cartwright (James Buckley) and lovelorn teen Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas) are unleashed on Australia for the ultimate gap-year-em-up banter-filled adventure.

Since we last saw the chaps - Jay has got himself a job in Australia (claiming to be a megastar DJ in a top Aussie club – which might not actually be true) – so Si, Will and Neil decide to go visit him in ‘the sex capital of the world’ and hope to find love.

Finding Jay in somewhat less than the mansion he claimed (a tent in his uncle’s garden) – the four set off on an ill-fated attempt to put growing up temporarily on-hold. Cue backpacking, swearing, mucho hilarious banter, a car decked out with Peter Andre’s ‘Mysterious Girl’ artwork and some babes. Will clashes with the other lads about trying to ‘do something cultural’ but their focus is on drinking, girls, and winding up their fellow travellers.

The Inbetweeners 2 brings a serious ‘cringe factor’ – there are moments that you’ll need a strong stomach to watch as the boys take toilet humour to a new low… You may never feel safe on a water slide ever again after you’ve seen Will vs the poo!

Writers/directors Damon Beesley and Iain Morris keep the embarrassment coming thick and fast – much like they did with the original TV shows. The crowd I saw this with were crying with laughter and on the way out I heard one guy telling his mates that this was his fourth viewing of the film already!

Greg Davies pops up again as the unstoppably inappropriate Mr. Gilbert and steals his cameo scenes. The females of the cast include Simon’s psycho bride to be Lucy (Tamia Kari), Will’s crush hottie Katie (Emily Berrington), Jay’s ex Jayne (Lydia Rose Bewley) and of course Will’s cougar mum Polly (Belinda Stewart-Wilson).

The boys themselves are also on good form – these are iconic comedy characters who manage to go out with a rip-roaring laugh torrent and for many will be sadly missed.

You don’t need a PlayStation to play this awesome ‘Crash Bantercoot’ – enjoy this final fling for the boys…
