Artists’ group celebrate with gigs

THE Peppermintstore, a production group that brings music and the arts to Leighton, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a month of gigs and exhibitions across the town.

There is something for everyone in a packed programme of events that start this Saturday.

In 2001 Dan Taylor was working for the Youth Arts Festival on events including Jam in The Park. A conversation between Dan and Richard Woolly, of Centre Stage, resulted in The Peppermintstore’s first official event - an art exhibition over four weekends in October at the Old Fire Station. The exhibition included work by Dan and local artist John Young. Other events hosted since then include the now famous Peppermintstore New Year’s Eve Shindig, drum & bass nights over Easter bank holidays and regular acoustic events at the Old Fire Station.

The Peppermintstore’s most recent venture, Acoustic Afternoons, has been running for over a year now bringing monthly showcases to local venues offering an opportunity for local musicians to display their talents. There have also been art exhibitions. In 2010 Ola Bell’s Animal Fascination was on display at Green Tea followed by Dan Taylor’s Off The Walls Berlin at the tea room.

In celebration of the group’s milestone, and as part of the Leighton-Linslade Town Council October Cultural Event, an entire month of events starting Saturday will see performances and exhibitions from musicians and artists they have worked with over the last 10 years.
