Little can beat the sound of a big band in full swing, and we also hear much about choirs and the power of a chorus of voices. Combine the two and a powerful show is practically guaranteed.

Terry Steel presents Miller Plays The Musicals at Watford Colosseum in June in a show that brings the Astor Big Band and Singers together with a chorus from Rickmansworth Players Choir.

They will perform big band hits from Glenn Miller, The Andrew Sisters and Frank Sinatra including American Patrol, In the Mood and Moonlight Serenade. The programme will also include songs, music and dance from West End musicals such as Les Miserables, West Side Story, 42nd Street, Chess, Grease and Chicago.

The band has been appointed as the official touring show of the Royal British Legion to raise money for their Poppy Appeal, with special focus on helping sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. All profits, plus a collection in the interval will go to this charity.

Thousands of modern day veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq suffer from PTSD, a terrible disability that can include feelings of isolation, self destructive tendencies, insomnia and suicidal thoughts.

The award winning Rickmansworth Players Choir is delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of the show.

This well established community choir tackles a wide range of different styles from Madrigals to Madonna and from Rock to Baroque. With many engagements throughout the year, the choir particularly enjoys collaborating with others.

Choir master Pete Gold said: “There is a real buzz at rehearsals as we prepare to share the stage with the prestigious Astor Big Band and get to grips with the Glenn Miller classics and fabulous show tunes included in the programme.

“We can’t wait.”

Miller Plays The Musicals will be performed at Watford Colosseum at 3pm on Sunday June 11.
