Varied menu on offer in the month of May

Drama, music and comedy are all on the theatrical menu at the Old Town Hall in Hemel Hempstead during May.

At the end of the month a critically acclaimed musical inspired by the life of Nina Simone is performed at 8pm on Friday May 27.

Direct from sell out performances across the world, Apphia Campbell is now on tour in the UK with Black Is The Color Of My Voice.

The musical follows the life of a successful jazz singer and Civil Rights activist seeking redemption after the untimely death of her father.

    She reflects on the journey that took her from a young piano playing prodigy destined for a life in the service of the church, to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights movement.

    The May theatrical offerings start at 8pm on Wednesday May 11 with Dinosaur Park (The Jurassic Parody), an award winning , laugh out loud spin on the Spielberg classic. Taking place in the unlikely setting of Lyme Regis Community Centre where the Park family embark on a journey to a misty past, things start to go wrong and family feuds are faced with the rapturous roar of DIY dinosaurs.

    Like the film that inspired it, the drama is rated PG and is unsuitable for under 8s. Tickets £15, concessions £13.

    Moving back in time, Emma at 8pm on Wednesday May 18 tells the classic story of Emma Woodhouse who is handsome, clever and rich and also a bit of a meddler. After her governess marries, with her help, Emma believes it is clear she should become a matchmaker. And who better to start with than unpolished Harriet Smith. But as her interference gets out of hand it may be time for Emma to question her own judgement and also to consider her own heart.

    Great Scott! imagines what ‘really happened’ when Captain Scott and his men perished in 1912 in their doomed attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole.
