Hemel Hempstead Singers will celebrate the power and glory of music at their spring concert on Saturday, March 22.

The choir will perform the choral suite, Music’s Praise, by 20th century English composer Michael Hurd, as well as works by Bach, Beethoven and Mendelssohn at the concert at St John’s Church, Boxmoor.

Music’s Praise, a serenade for four-part choir and string orchestra, was written in 1968 and first performed by the Stroud Festival Choir. The suite includes settings of lyrical hymns to music by Shakespeare, Herrick, Alexander Pope and William Strode.

Conducted by their music director Simon Pusey, the choir will also perform Bach’s Mass in G Major, and short pieces by Beethoven and Mendelssohn.

Local orchestra the Chiltern Ensemble will accompany the singers for the concert, which begins at 8pm.

Tickets, at £10 each, are available from the choir secretary on 01442 386657, or on the door. Refreshments will be served in the interval.
