After drawing resounding applause from audiences during a summer tour of Normandy, members of the Berkhamsted Choral Society are back on home ground on Saturday night.
They are teaming up with choral colleagues from Chorleywood for a concert titled Sacred Selection at the town’s St Peter’s Church, starting at 7.30pm.
The music for the first perrformance of the group’s 2013-14 season will be from the same sources as the programme which captivated concert-goers at Lisieux Basilica, Bayeux Cathedral and the Église de St Pierre in Arromanches.
First up is Handel’s Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened, composed in 1727 for the coronation of George II.
Other favourites, from a variety of English and European composers including Purcell, Brahms, Fauré and Bruckner, also feature in the programme.
The concert ends with Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D major K194
Musical director is Graham Wili and organist is Iestyn Evans who will also perform a selection of organ solos.
Tickets are £13, with over 60s paying £11 and students and Dacorum Card holders getting in for just £6. Under 18s are admitted free of charge.
