With Valentine’s Day approaching, food hygiene watchdogs at Dacorum Borough Council are urging lovey-dovey diners to check the food hygiene rating of restaurants before they book their romantic meal.
Food outlets inspected to check that hygiene standards meet legal requirements are rated on a scale ranging from a top rating of 5 to the lowest of zero, which indicates that urgent improvement is necessary.
The ratings are available for anyone to view on the Food Standard Agency’s website which can be found at www.food.gov.uk/ratings .
People can also download the new Food Hygiene Rating Scheme smartphone app.
Closer to home, visit www.dacorum.gov.uk to see which food outlets in the last three months have been awarded a 4 or 5 star food hygiene rating.
Councillor Neil Harden said “Lots of people go out to celebrate at this time of year. I am pleased to say that 83 per cent) of local food businesses are rated 4 stars or above but I would urge dinners not just to consider the menu, but check the food hygiene rating as well.”
