The Age Concern Day Centre in Half Moon Yard, High Street, Hemel Hempstead helps to make the lives of senior citizens easier, offering the opportunity to get out of the house and to socialise as well as having a hot meal in the company of others.
Long-term volunteers will be welcomed. Particularly needed are minibus escorts, who are there to lend a hand or an arm for an older person to enable them to walk safely from their house to the minibus. Runs are all small, picking up about 15 passengers from their homes, taking them to the club for the start at 10am and then taking them home afterwards at 3pm.
Escorts are needed daily. There is an upper age limit of 75 years, travel costs are refundable and training is offered. Driving licence must be shown.
Helpers are also needed at day centres throughout Hemel Hempstead and in Bovingdon. Tasks could include making tea, serving meals, chatting to members, playing board games or cards.
Anyone with special talents or skills, which could be shared with members, could also find a slot. Help is specially needed on Mondays and Wednesdays but there are 11 centres across Hemel Hempstead on other days in the week.
