Whatever your interests, perhaps you could share your skill with 13-18 year olds at the Hemel Initiative for Youth Action (HIYA).
The group meets every Sunday at St Mary and St Joseph Parish Centre in Boxmoor, from 7pm to 9.30pm. If art, music, drama, sports or something else is your forte, they would love to hear from you.
Regular activities include games nights, paintballing, an annual retreat, day trips, service projects, the DENS sleepout, scavenger /treasure hunts, discussion nights, sports, bowling etc.
Fundamental in requirements is an interest in young people, but people of either sex, over 16 years are needed. They should have good communication skills, especially listening, good judgment, initiative, self discipline and be good at problem solving and be real team players. CRB checks will be required.
The centre is in St John's Road, Boxmoor, opposite St Mary and St Joseph Church. For further information contact the Volunteer Centre or Venus Garcia-George on 07890 590 585.
Dacorum Rent Aid helps vulnerable, single, homeless people over 18 to find and afford private accommodation in the Dacorum area. Since 1995 they have helped more than 400 people establish a real home and to live secure and independent lives. As well as helping financially and checking accommodation to ensure all is well, ongoing support is offered in a variety of ways.
Volunteers are needed to join the team of trustees to share responsibility for overseeing the running of this vital local charity.
Two more trustees are needed - one for finance and one for fundraising from Monday to Friday during the day or in the evening. The minimum age is 18.
A finance trustee would oversee financial processes, liaise with accountants over annual inspection of accounts, provide trustees with up-to-date information and ensure future plans are sound and point out the financial implications of decisions.
Fundraising trustee skills would be to create and manage the charity's fundraising plans, lead a small group to implement the plans and keep in touch with existing donors and keep them informed. The Dacorum Rent Aid office is at the junction of Queensway and Marlowes at Old Queensway House, 10-12 Queensway.
Not one for being a couch potato? Perhaps you could help do minor DIY tasks in the homes of clients who generally can no longer carry out these simple jobs, but have no-one else to ask. The Age Concern Handyperson Scheme helps out in such cases and also offers a limited gardening service.
The scheme needs a manager to organise jobs for volunteers. The manager would take job requests, complete job sheets, telephone clients, file information and allocate work by phone or e mail. Flexible times are available to suit a volunteer - 10am to midday or 2pm to 4pm. Lower age limit is 20 years.
Could you help run a village fete? Willing helpers to make the community fete at Leverstock Green go with a swing are needed to help set up stalls, run stalls during the afternoon and/or help put it all away at the end of a perfect day. If you can be of any assistance, the organisers would love to hear from you. The fete itself is scheduled for Saturday, July 12. Please call before July 4.
The world's biggest coffee morning is on its way. This year's date for Macmillan Cancer Support's ever-popular event is Friday, September 26.
An opportunity arises possibly for a student on summer break to help get people to raise a cup at home, at work or school to help people affected by cancer. Or they could have a garden party, drink it in the bath - could you think of something really unusual?
Such a volunteer would be working on a flagship fundraising event, two full days a week from June to October.
Skills needed are organisational ability, confidence, able to use own initiative, enthusiasm for the cause and well-versed in Microsoft Office applications.
