An experienced motorist has accused traffic wardens of driving shoppers out of Tring after being stung with a fine.
Andrew Grigson was given a ticket after he left the front of his car parked over the bay's white line to avoid broken glass.

He said: "I am absolutely disgusted. I couldn't park any further back because there was some broken glass and a bottle.
"It was about six to eight inches over."

The service technician, who travels around 40,000 miles a year as part of his job, said he left his car for around 10 minutes on Monday, September 22, to go to the bank.

He said there were no other empty short stay bays in the Frogmore Street car park because it was a busy time in the afternoon.

When he returned he saw a traffic warden taking photos of his car. "I did show her where the glass was but she wasn't interested," he said.

Now he has had to write a letter to parking bosses to appeal against the charge, which costs £50 or £25 if paid within 14 days.

Mr Grigson, of Miswell Lane, Tring, said as a result he will no longer shop in the town centre. In his letter to parking bosses he said: "I for one, will be added to the list of people who will no longer be shopping in Tring."

A spokesman for Dacorum Borough Council said: "Users of the council's car parks should park within the marked bays, this is also clearly printed on the information boards displayed in the car park. Cars parked outside the bay can cause an obstruction and can also block through traffic in the car park.

"Anyone who feels a penalty charge notice (PCN) has been issued unfairly can appeal in writing to The Parking Centre, PO Box 921, 81 Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, HP1 1ZP."

She added: "If any user of a car park is concerned about the condition of the parking bays, we would be grateful if they would report it to the Parking Centre on 01908 223505."

Your comments:

Norman Miller said: "I have lived in Tring for over twenty years and it is a rare occurrence that I shop in Tring.

"With over zealous wardens constantly on the prowl who do nothing to to clear broken glass from bays it is far less hassle to go to Aylesbury or to the local tesco.

"I could accept they have a job to do but you only have to drive through the High Street and find cars blocking access causing jams, when I asked why they don't do something about this major problem they said it's not our problem we only do the car parks.

So the moral in Tring, is to avoid parking fines, park on the streets and grass verges and nothing will be said."
