Exceptionally high standards and infectious enthusiasm has earned a school in Tring top marks in an Ofsted inspection.

Goldfield Infants' and Nursery School is finishing the summer term on a high after being ranked outstanding overall - the highest mark inspectors can give.

Inspector Derek Watts visited last month (June) when he observed classes, looked at pupil's work and found out what youngsters and parents think about the school.

The Ofsted report, released last week, said pupils make 'exceptionally good progress' due to a 'first rate start' in nursery and reception classes.

it said: "By the end of Year Two, standards are exceptionally high. Excellent care, guidance and support and a very positive school atmosphere lead to an outstanding personal development and well being for pupils.

"Outstanding leadership and management are the keys to the school's success and improvements since the last inspection (May 2005]. The head teacher provides excellent leadership through her professional skills and infectious enthusiasm."

The inspection also said parents are 'extreme'y pleased' with the care and education provided.

Head teacher Debora Stevens said: "We are thrilled to bits and we feel that team work and the family atmosphere have really contributed."

The only areas the school did not get top marks was pupil attendance and the extent to which learners make a contribution to the community. However, the grade given was 'good' which is above average.
