Together participants have pledged £100,000 to the Tring-based Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (IRHH).

A total of 750 walkers, many in fancy dress, turned out at midnight on Saturday, June 6 for the Goodnight Walk in Amersham, Bucks.

To add to the fun they were sent on their way by BBC breakfast presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Bill Turnbull.

Senior community fundraiser for the hospice Ruth Barber said: "This third Goodnight walk is the biggest event we have done to date and we're truly amazed and very proud at the amount of walkers that signed up to take part and support IRHH.

"It was an incredible sight to see all the walkers lined up at the start, plus all those who kindly turned up to offer support as marshals, volunteers and IRHH staff who gave up their Saturday night to make the event run smoothly.

"We are thrilled at the monies pledged by everyone and hope they will continue their support so that we can hit this year's target of £100,000."

The target amount will employ three specialist nurses for a year who will help care for seriously and terminally ill patients in their own homes.
