A former holiday camp performer has made it to the regional finals of a national talent show.

Amanda Thorogood, who used to work as a Pontins bluecoat, impressed judges with her performance of Bette Midler's classic, Wind Beneath My Wings.

Idol 2008 is a national dance and music competition that will launch the winner into the media spotlight with a recording contract and single release.

Amanda, of Rushendon Furlong in Pitstone, said: "I'm really excited to have reached the regional finals. Singing is my passion and I'm determined to make the very best I can of this opportunity."

She has also performed with the Tring Festival Company in productions such as Fame and sings with the choir group Beacon Community Arts.

The 23-year-old hopes her time as a holiday entertainer will give her the edge in her bid for stardom. "My previous experience can only help my confidence as I progress through the competition," she said.

The regional final will be held in Bedford on Monday, October 20.

If successful Amanda will go through to the grand final in Portsmouth this November where contestants will perform in front of celebrity judges including Cheryl Baker from Bucks Fizz and Liz McClarnon from girl band Atomic Kitten.
