Fundraising divers believe they may have broken a quirky world record for 'extreme ironing'.
Jack Moon, 26, (pictured) and girlfriend Amy Clements, 30, braved icy temperatures to help beat the record number of divers ironing underwater at the same time.
Jack explained: "The whole thing was good fun and a great display of British eccentricity.
"We had to get ourselves under, set up the ironing board and have our photo taken 'ironing'.
"Everyone had to be recorded in a 10 minute window and we got 86, which beat the record of 72."
The pair, of Stationers Place, Apsley, joined a team of 130 for the feat, that raised £8,000 for
Royal National Lifeboats Institution (RNLI).
Jack, who works for an Uxbridge sales firm, added: "It was organised by an online group called
Yorkshire Divers who are always looking for ways to raise funds for the RNLI.
"It came to their attention that the Australians held this record and it seemed like a suitably silly way to raise money."
Jack and Amy, both members of the
Dacorum Sub Aqua Club (DSAC), travelled to a quarry in south Wales for the challenge on Saturday, January 10.
The team have submitted their photo and video evidence to the Guinness World Records team to verify their claim.
Jack said: "The reason behind the event is the fundraising. I've seen the RNLI in action and they're something else.
"Time and again they comes to the rescue of those who use the water for pleasure, and often in the most arduous of circumstances.
"Raising money for them is more of an achievement that being part of the record breaking, although it will definitely be something funny to tell the grandchildren!"
