Tring thrashed as Stortford take revenge
Bishop’s Stortford 45 Tring Rugby 10
TRING suffered a heavy defeat to Bishop’s Stortford as the hosts got revenge for their last-minute defeat in the reverse fixture.
Tring’s one-point win earlier in the season added extra spice to an already fierce rivalry, and Stortford made amends in emphatic style.
In a hard-fought opening 15 minutes, neither side managed to force a breakthrough, but it was the hosts who eventually landed the first blow.
Number 8 Mark McCraith touched down under the posts for a converted try, but Tring hit back through a Nathan Lambden kick.
Jimmy Rea extended the hosts’ lead with another try, before Tring’s Jonathan Morgan was yellow carded and Rea added his second score of the game.
With a healthy 21-3 half-time lead, Stortford continued to press after the interval and John Stocker and Richie McMillan ran over the fourth and fifth tries.
Flanker Maehe Austin added another score, before Tring’s Tom Newton saw yellow for a late tackle.
Nick Harris went over for the hosts’ next try, and Liam Chennells was red carded for a punch as Tring began to lose their cool.
The visitors kept plugging away, however, and prop Marlen Walker scored a consolation try which Scott Browne converted.
