The boy Dunne good

Cyclist Connor Dunne has prepared perfectly for this weekend's National Junior Road Race Championships.

After a long spell without a win, the 17-year-old from Hemel Hempstead has notched up two within a week with victory in races at Hog Hill racing circuit, Redbridge.

With one of the biggest races of the year approaching this weekend, Connor is pleased to be hitting form at just the right time.

"It's a 120km road race, and the best juniors from around the country will be there," he said.

"But I'm just coming into form now – I've been doing a lot of training. I've got a lot more confidence now. I feel I can do well this weekend.

"I'll be really happy with a top five place."

What made his recent double win all the sweeter was his beating arch rival and British Junior champion Joe Perrett to the finishing line, an opponent who beat him into second place at the recent National Junior 10 mile Time Trial Championships.

Connor was also one of the youngest riders there.

Success this weekend would no doubt be one of the youngster's

career highlights to date.

And with another year still to compete in the junior category, Connor, who has just finished his AS Levels, must surely be on track for some major silverware.

Despite deserving a well-earned rest, next stop for him will be the Alps, where he plans to do some high-altitude training this summer.
