Taekwon- duo become World Champions
A taekwon-duo have become World Champions in the country known as the home of the sport.
Dave Gurney and Hayley Parker each earned a gold medal at the ITF World Championships in South Korea.
Dave, from Potten End, won a gold in the men's power breaking event as well as two bronzes - in the team sparring and power breaking.
"To win it at the home of taekwon-do was brilliant," said the 31 year old.
"It was an amazing experience. It's nice to know all the hard work has paid off."
Fellow black-belter Hayley, of George Street in Berkhamsted, was equally delighted with her win.
She came back clutching gold for her patterns event and a silver for Welter Weight Sparring.
She said: "It's difficult to put into words.
"We represented our country, have done well, so I'm very, very happy."
The pair helped Team England to become overall World Champions at the 10-day event, which ended on Saturday, July 10.
They were top out of more than 30 countries.
Their trip to Cheongju City was partly funded by a Battle 100 back in May.
Dave, Hayley and other Team England fighters were among those who took part in the sparring event where more than 400 was raised.
