Development Day delivers a boost for disabled swim coaching
The Herts Sports Village is set to host a development day aimed to improve the quality of coaching for disabled swimmers.
The Hertfordshire Disability Development Day will take place on Saturday, February 18 and begins at 11.30am with an educational programme for swimming teachers and coaches.
Participants will be able to chose one of two topics for the day – working with children with educational difficulties or integrating disabled swimmers into a mainstream coaching environment with additional focus on visual impairment.
Paralympic bronze medallist Dervis Konuralp has been invited to give a motivational talk to the teachers, coaches, swimmers and parents who will arrive for the pool session at 5pm.
Dervis has represented Great Britain at four Paralympic Games’, three World Championships’ and four European Championships’.
Dervis – who has so far won 35 International medals including 14 golds – is visually impaired and swims in the S13 classification. He is also a record holder.
Michelle Weltman, lead coach for the London Disability Swim Squad, will run the pool session where the qualified teachers and coaches will develop swim skills with the athletes.
