Sky-high Eagles counting down to Hemel homecoming
HERTS Eagles will take part in their biggest ever game at their Grovehill home.
The Eagles, Herts Baseball Club's second side, are bidding for glory at the National Baseball Championships this weekend.
The Southern AAA Division runners-up will take on winners of the Northern AAA Division Liverpool Trojans on Saturday for the right to play in the grand final on Sunday.
Club president Aspi Dimitrov said: "Being awarded the championships was fantastic news for everyone at the club, and the prospect of having a Herts team take a title makes it even better."
The Falcons, who were in with a chance of joining their club mates at Grovehill Ballpark, lost out after being beaten by Mildenhall Bulldogs, who took the last play-off spot.
They were rolled over 11-4 and 18-1.
Eagles however secured their place at baseball's biggest event of the year with a trouncing of Bracknell Infernos over the weekend.
Veteran pitcher Darrin Ward stifled the visitors from the mound, while Mahendra Prasad lead the charge for the Hemel Hempstead side, hitting a three-run home run.
Paul Auchterlounie's running catch in the outfield was the highlight of the Eagles' defence.
The best teams from around the country will be on show this weekend.
The National Baseball Championships will see outfits from all four tiers of the British game - from the elite National League to the rookies A-class, competing for their respective titles.
