Skiing brothers show their Poth-ential

Snow superstar Robert Poth beat his older brother to become British Indoor Ski Race champion.

The 13-year-old racer slid to gold in last weekend's Indoor Championships race with Daniel, 14, in second.

Both compete for Hemel Ski Race Club based at the Snow Centre.

"It made it even better beating my brother, he is a really good skier," said Robert, who is spending his first season racing at U15 level.

"It was great because I'm at the younger end of the age group and was taking on guys much older than me.

"I'm very proud."

The event at Castleford Xscape Indoor Snow Centre began with the last of nine British Indoor Grand Prix Series events on the Saturday.

Robert took second place overall in the standings with Daniel third.

Sunday saw the main event Championship race, which the younger Poth completed in dead on 25 seconds, just ahead of his older sibling (25.25), against another 40 people all desperate to take the title.

Next up for the boys, both of whom have been called into the Hertfordshire Talented Athlete Programme for 2010/11, will be the European Indoor Championships in September.

Both will then begin the winter alpine ski season, which takes place in Italy and France, from December until April.
