Sarries slay the Warriors

Saracens proved that they can add running rugby to their winning ways on Sunday afternoon with a thumping 41-14 victory over Worcester Warriors in the LV= Cup.

With both teams remaining in the spirit of the competition by naming young sides, it was always going to be a feast of running rugby and proved to be so, with Sarries coming out on top.

Worcester scored first after only ten minutes as Sam Betty powered over for a converted try.

Sarries hit back with two penalties before Worcester scored another strong try through Luke Arscott.

The game remained tense with both sides looking to attack, however Saracens began to take control of the territory.

With captain Jamie George opting for lineouts rather than kicking for points, the forwards set up a rolling maul and scrum-half Peter Stringer was on hand to dive over for a converted try.

Sarries were 14-13 behind at the break, but were looking the stronger team.

They continued to build the pressure and eventually struck with a scoring burst.

Justin Melck was first to go over after good work from Scott Spurling, before debutant rugby league convert Joel Tomkins took advantage of a loose pass to intercept and go over under the posts.

Tomkins struck soon after as he went over in the corner after some good hands set him free.

With only minutes remaining Saracens struck for the fifth time as the forwards rumbled over to give George a try of his own.

The game was refreshing to watch for the Saracens supporters, with a number of players stepping up and having a positive impact.

With some free-flowing rugby combined with the Men In Black’s usual pragmatism, it was certainly a game to remember for the Vicarage Road faithful.
