Rich in Commonwealth team after becoming British champ
British swimming champion Richard Charlesworth has made the team for this year's Commonwealth Games.
The 21 year old this week returned from the British National Swimming Championships with the 1,500m freestyle title, having held off Olympic silver medallist David Davies, and a silver medal in the 400m freestyle.
His results, which saw him post 15.25.03 and 3.53.00 respectively, were enough to convince selectors of his deserving a place in the team for October's games in New Delhi, India.
"I am really excited to get another chance to race for my country at a major competition," said Charlesworth, who competed in the 1,500m freestyle at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
"Its been a hard year having recovered from glandular fever and tonsilitis but am glad that all my hard work has paid off."
The former JFK student also swam in the 200m freestyle ending up eighth overall posting a best time in the heats of 1.51.99.
The Hatfield Swimming Club member is determined to make it to London 2012.
