Racer not lovin' it as fast food trip ends with dislocated hip

A karter is ready to make a comeback after dislocating his hip in a car crash.

Michael Epps, who lives on Trevellan Drive in Hemel Hempstead, was driving four racer friends back from McDonalds in his Renault Clio when a car ran into him at a T junction.

The accident, which came in the middle of a race weekend at the beginning of August, has kept the 18 year old out of the driving seat for almost a month.

Fortunately for him the British Karting Championships Super One season has been on hold since that last race in Grantham.

"I'm really looking for a couple of high finishes in the last two races to get me into the top five places," said Michael, who is currently 10th in the rankings.

"I'm capable of doing most things now, and driving a kart or a car is definitely one of them.

"I'm really ready to compete."

Michael, who was in with a chance of winning the GP Plate Kartmasters Grand Prix before he was sidelined mid-weekend, is hoping to fry bigger fish next year.

The former Adeyfield schoolboy will follow his other passion in life away from the track as he goes to the University of Hertfordshire to study music composition and technology.

Meanwhile he is hoping to secure a place in the prestigious British Formula Vee Championships, racing for current team Global Karting.

He will get behind the wheel for the first time in four weeks this weekend as the Super One series moves to Shenington.

After completing the season in September getting a drive at a winter championships will be the priority.
