Queens of Kings help Herts to national win
Kings Langley ladies helped Herts to a national trophy win.
County champion Carol Brown and Marion Clarke played in the coveted Johns Trophy win.
The inter-county six-rink competition, played at the Bowls England Ladies Championships, saw Herts storm to wins over Bedfordshire, Suffolk and Leicestershire to reach the semi-finals.
They outplayed Durham at Victoria Park, Leamington Spa, to reach a nail-biting final with Somerset which Herts won 109-108.
Potten End's Glad Pearce was on the sub's bench.
The Kings ladies' top week was balanced by a poor week back at their club.
In their first match last Monday they were beaten 73-58 by Radlett in a mixed triples game, top rink Alan Wragg, Richard Rigarlsford and Tony Newbould winning 19-10.
On Saturday they lost a mixed friendly at Met Police:78-76, top rink Rosemary Biggs, Alan Wragg, Frank Turtle and Audrey Poole winning 26-15.
Sunday saw a top rink of Gerald Cowan, Richard Cox and Frank Turtle win 21-12 but the club lose their mixed triples 79-75 to St Albans.
Kitcheners got their own back on Hemel Hempstead after losing their mid-week match 73-66.
Sunday saw them beat Hemel in their Dacorum Shield match 58-36 on all rinks.
Tony Scattergood, Dave Richarson and Sue Halsey were three of the player's on Kitcheners' top rink.
Berkhamsted's Carole Dunn, Anne Furlong and Jackie Cormack were all in action at the county mini-finals.
They won their first game in the National Benevolent Triples against Sele Farm.
The final against Hatfield at Northaw & Cuffley club saw their opponents pip them to the win by two shots.
Berko beat Garston at home in a friendly last Wednesday 86-75, top rink Dave Biggerstaff, Chris Burton, Beryl Parsons and David Brown.
Staurday was another closely-fought match, but they lost to Harpenden. Ken Maynard, Anne Cutting, Maurice Primo and Alan Jones were their best rink.
In a mixed match Tring went down 108-85 to Aston Clinton, Lyn Croad, Allan Lummis and Joe Kempster top rink.
In another local derby Tring went down 97-77 to Aylesbury, top rink to Tricia Hewetson, Brian Livesey and Roy Sane.
In the friendly match with Potten End they came out on 41-32, but in the DCS fixture they were well-beaten 76-42.
In the ladies they beat Oxhey 24-15, top rink Jill Mooring, Jo Turney, Lyn Boniface and Gill Watson, but went down 25-12 to Potten End.
The Enders went down on their match at North Mymms last Wednesday 80-61.
Top rink was Roy Moore, Arthur Page, Jim Dewart and Tom Jordan.
Saturday's match at St.Albans was another defeat, 69-65. Top rink was Dave Gomm, Tom Hanford and Tom Jordan.
On a happier note for PE the Dacorum Shield match at Tring on Sunday saw them emerge 71-42 winners.
The friendly match was also a win, 45-36.
