Payne: 'Denilson can make the difference'

The signing of a man with a real footballing name can make all the difference to the Tudors' season, says their manager.

Colin Payne hopes tomorrow to complete a deal for 24-year-old AFC Hayes striker Denilson Vincente, who he says can bring much needed firepower to the Vauxhall Road outfit.

"Hopefully he can make the step up from the league below," he said.

"If he can then he will definitely bring goals to the table."

Payne was speaking after watching his side earn just one point from the bank holiday weekend's two games, against Salisbury, who were relegated from the Conference, and Cambridge City.

However his troops have now played three of the clubs he believes will make the top five this season:

"We have played sides like Hednesford, Salisbury and Cambridge," he said, "and still picked up 10 points from six games overall.

"Credit has to go to the boys.

"People thought we wouldn't have done this well playing against that standard of opposition.

"I'm delighted with our start, but we are still two or three players short of having the squad to push on in this league."

Payne added that he is looking to bring in another central midfielder to strengthen the squad.

After the 2-0 loss at home to Cambridge. which came in front of 400 fans, he said: "They took off two players and brought on two conference players - quality for quality.

"That makes the difference."

Saturday saw Dennis Fenemore get the Tudors' only goal as they drew 1-1 at Salisbury.

Payne added: "We could have beaten them. We played really well especially in the second half.

"We created some really good chances and then gave away a really sloppy goal."

Eighth-placed Hemel are at Halesowen Town on Saturday and host Didcot on Tuesday.
