Paddles up

A quartet of paddlers from Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club took part in the Thameside 2 kayak mar-athon from Reading to Marlow at the weekend.

The choppy waters caused veterans John Huston and Robin Oakley all manner of problems with the front of their kayak submarining early on.

Later on the pair had a lapse in concentration and capsized but soldiered on to finish in last place.

The ladies pairing of Erika Henson and Camilla Lennon encountered no such problems and had another good paddle in their K2 and once again finished ahead of their planned schedules.

Meanwhile Hemel lad Mick Doyle, who trains at Hemel Hempstead CC but paddles for Elmbridge CC, came second in the senior K1 section.
