Triathlon participation is on the rise, with Triathlon England citing a 10 per cent increase in membership in 2015.

By running this event on Sunday, October 2, Sportspace – the local charitable sports trust run by Dacorum Sports Trust – are hoping that they will be able to encourage even more people from the local area to get involved.

The Hemel Hempstead Triathlon will comprise a 400m swim in the outdoor pool (16 lengths), then an 8km cycle followed by a 5km run.

The triathlon is open to anyone but the distances have deliberately been chosen to try to encourage people who are new to the sport to give it a go.

Head of Sport Amanda Colwill said: “We want to run an event that makes Triathlons accessible to as many people as possible and hopefully the training sessions in all three disciplines will encourage the community to get involved.

“It really doesn’t matter if your bike has a basket on the front – if it’s roadworthy, then you can get involved!”

The event is also being supported by Triathlon England and Cliff King who ran the successful Berkhamsted Triathlon.

Places are limited, so participants are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
