One jump to become British champ
Bradley Pike needed only one jump to become the SIAB International Schools champion.
Wearing his national vest for the first time, the 16-year-old triple jumper swatted off competition from the best that Britain could throw at him.
He leaped 14.75m on Saturday, - just 1cm off his personal best - but managed to foul his following five jumps at the event in Glasgow.
However the single jump was enough to win him the crown for his country:
"It was the best experience I have ever had," said Bradley, of Leverstock Green Road.
"It was great winning for England - it made me and my family so proud."
The former Adeyfield schoolboy beat rival Jimi Tele - who finished ahead of him in the Enlish Schools last weekend - into second place, making it an English one-two.
And despite having five out of six jumps disqualified, Bradley is taking the positives from what was a memorable weekend for the Dacorum and Tring AC athlete.
"The wind was swirling around, affecting my run up," he added.
"But some of the jumps I fouled were massive. I was only fouling by a little bit but was hitting 15m.
"I know I can jump that far."
He hopes the championship win will get him noticed by Team GB selectors, who will be planning their teams for the Commonwealth and World Age Games in 2011.
