Sapphire School of Gymnastics held their annual invitational competition last weekend at Hemel Hempstead Sports Centre.

The Level 2 team performed well as Jessie Boad scored 47.65, Tilly Hedges notched 48.50 and Ondine Achampong recorded 52.50 – totalling 148.65 which gave them first place and the gold medals.

The top level, or FIG as it is known, saw Sapphire A and Sapphire B in action. Sapphire A consisted of Hallie Copperwheat (49.05), Teal Grindle – only working on three pieces following recent surgery – (38.25), Gypsy Squires (47.55) and Megan Splain (47.75). Their grand total of 146.15 was enough for the gold medal.

The Sapphire B team was made up of Alyeana Rahim (46.95), Nemiah Munir (46.60), Lauren Matthews (45.40) and Gabby Jupp – only on bars – (13.85). They totalled 143.30 which was good enough for second place.

Gabby has only recently returned to action following an ACL tear earlier in the year and she performed very well to get such a high score on the bars – well done to all three teams.
