The 2016 golf season got underway at Little Hay this weekend with the annual Captains’ Drive-In.

This saw Chris Miles (club captain), Gill Howells (ladies’ captain), Paul Whiter (seniors’ captain) and Craig Walker (juniors’ captain) each drive off from the first tee.

Their drive distances were recorded and club members entered a competition to guess the total length of the drive.

This was followed by a fun Stableford team competition where members from all sections of the club got the chance to play in mixed teams.

In lovely weather, the competition was closely fought, with the team of Chris Dorsett, Karl Burn, Brian Ridgeway and Mike Mason coming out on top. The best individual score went to Craig Walker with 43 points.

On Monday, the ladies were successful in their Pearson Trophy match away to Bushey Golf and Country Club, winning 5-2.

On the same day, the remaining ladies played for the Dacorum Cup which was won by Alison Sexton with 33 points, with Linda Reeve second with 32 points.

Division Two was won by Maureen Bidgway with 28 points, with Suzanne Brady second with 24 points.

Meanwhile, last week’s printed results for the Men’s Medal caused some consternation in the Butler household as the LHGC press officer mistakenly credited Will Butler with winning Division Two, rather than his elder brother Tom.
