Dacorum & Tring AC’s 13-strong middle distance squad were in action over the weekend at the Herts Championships held at Watford.
The event included 400m for Senior Women, 800m races for the Under 15 and older age groups, and 1,500m events for Under 13 Boys and Girls.
The club’s star performer was Kristian Imroth in the U15 Boys 800m. Going into the event with a PB of 2mins 22secs, Kristian ran 2.14s to win his heat, then improved further in the final to record 2.12s to take third.
In the heats Michael Armstrong ran 2.23s but was unable to progress to the final, and in the same heat Joel Amos improved his best by over six seconds to record 2.48s.
Rhys Rowlands was another to achieve a PB, when he finished fifth in the Under 20 Mens 800m in a fine time of 2.10s, and Alex Bousfield (2.40) also took fifth place in the Under 17 Women’s 800m.
In a rare outing over 400m Sarah Grover (62.97s) finished second in the Senior Women’s race, perfect preparation for an attack on her 800m PB at next Wednesday’s Watford Open Meeting.
Although not able to make the final, in their debut at 800m Amy Cassidy (2.38s) and Lily Boden (2.39s) both achieved excellent performances in the heats of the Under 15 Girls event.
Jess Benveniste (5.35s) was yet another to achieve a fifth place in the Under 13 Girls 1,500m, whilst Thomas Ashton (5.19s), Jamie Bailey (5.23s) and Sam Burnell (5.25s) finished seventh, eighth and ninth respectively in the Under 13 Boys 1,500m.
Olivia Edwards was the youngest performer in action over the weekend, contesting the Bucks Championships held in conjunction with the Oxon Championships at the Oxford Horspath track.
On Saturday Olivia finished fifth in the Under 13 Girls 1,500m in a time of 5.26s, just outside her best. On the Sunday she contested the 800m, and although very tired from her efforts on the previous day she showed great tenacity to equal her PB, finishing nine overall out of 24 runners in a time of 2.43s.
