Mike Kazer wasn’t far behind him, clocking a time of 4:32:21. Unfortunately there were a couple of big crashes which resulted in some D&T athletes being held up for 90 minutes whilst waiting for the air ambulance to arrive. Had it not been for the hold up, Anya Higgins would have finished in an impressive time of 5:58.

Jim Mason was also affected by the hold up and would have finished in a time of around 6:20. Alex Bayliss, again caught up in stoppage, would have otherwise completed the course in around 6:24. Penny Wallduck also conquered the 100 mile route, finishing in a time of 7:58:43.

Matt Hamilton was victorious in the RAF Halton Triathlon Super Sprint race on Sunday. The race consisted of a 300m swim, 21km bike ride and a 5.4km run. Matt claimed top spot on the podium with a winning time of 1 hour, 1 minute and 46 seconds which put him 26 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

Matt completed the swim in 5:08 and the bike ride in 35:09 before hitting the front 2km in to the run. Once in the lead, Matt was in no mood to relinquish that it was all academic from that point on. He completed the run in an excellent time of 20:16, sealing a tremendous and hard fought win.

Dacorum & Tring’s answer to the Brownlee brothers, twin sisters Sam and Becky Fawcett both claimed a place on the podium in the RAF Halton Duathlon with Sam taking second place and Becky finishing third in the women’s race.

Sam’s time of 1 hour, 24 minutes and 12 seconds put her third overall, with Becky coming seventh overall after a cracking performance that saw her finishing in a time of 1:35:12.

The race consisted of a 5k run, followed by a 23km cycle and then another 5k run to finish with. Sam completed her first run in 21 minutes 33 before jumping on the bike to complete her ride in 38:54.

She clocked a time of 22:33 for her second run, putting her in first placed woman at the time. It was only when the first woman came in from the second wave that Sam found out she’d been knocked down the second place.

Becky completed her first run in 25:07 before moving on to the cycle. Despite only having been riding for a few months and not even having a proper road bike, Becky has taken it remarkably well and completed the cycle in 43:13.

She went on to conquer her second run in 25:10, which was almost the same as her first. Becky’s third place finish marked a very successful first ever attempt at a duathlon.
