A golden hat-trick for SSKI Irish Open Karate Championships

Dacorum’s Seishinkai Shotokan Karate International club sent four competitors to the prestigious 2015 Irish Open Karate Championships in Dublin and came away with a hat-trick of gold medals.

Cristy Nash, 17, won the gold medal in the senior ladies’ kata (forms) event and also took a bronze in the senior cadet ladies’ kumite (free-fighting) division.

Thomas Carson, 17, won an excellent gold medal in the senior male cadet kumite event, and 33-year-old Adam Cockfield won gold as part of the England men’s kumite team.

The club’s fourth competitor, 14-year-old Dylan Freeman, did extremely well but narrowly missed out on the medals.

Chief instructor Malcolm Phipps 8th Dan said he was ‘extremely pleased’ with all four competitors.
