Monday's knights alright for fighting
FRENCH knights and English hostages felt the wrath of more than 40 archers.
Both sets of dummies were pelted with arrows at Berkhamsted Bowmen's 60th anniversary day which doubled as the Paul Dunn Memorial Fun Shoot last Monday.
Points were awarded for wounding or killing the ‘knights' and their ‘king' and deducted for hitting hostages.
Archers from different local clubs donned medieval costume, picked up their longbows and got shooting.
Silver Arrow winner for highest score went to Berko Bowman Paul Stafford, who also won the Paul Dunn Memorial Trophy.
That award is in memory of longstanding club member Paul Dunn, who died in 2007.
His widow Lyn gave out the prizes, which included the Junior Trophy, given to Adam Lea, highest scoring visitor to Helen Mawditt, and most arrows shot in a minute to Matt Ross and Neil Baxter, who let off 14 each.
Best-dressed medieval archer was 11-year-old Saffron Paine, Julian Shipp won the Black Arrow for hitting most hostages while Jeanette Empson won the Lady Paramount prize.
A total of 200 was raised for cancer charities on the day.
