Mini Olympics in Hemel Hempstead
Less than 24 hours before the Beijing Olympics got into full swing, a group of youngsters were showing just what talent Dacorum may have to offer in the future.
Jarman Park was the setting for a mini-Olympiics, which saw a group of 26 seven to 11-year-olds competing in a whole range of track and field events.
It marked the climax of an annual two day long summer athletics course held at the sports track by coach Winston Thomas.
"The idea is to get the kids to a reasonable level of fitness, teach them the basics of running, throwing and jumping but most of all to have fun," said Winston.
"It all went really well. A lot of parents came down to watch and I have had lots of good feedback. They wanted to make sure I let them know when I'm doing it next year!"
Winston will be running Saturday courses for seven to 11-year-olds throughout term time, starting from October.
