Adeyfield bag eight medals at nationals

Adeyfield Judo Club put in a top display at the British Judo Championship to come away with eight medals.

The club, which is based in Rant Meadow, sent 10 fighters to the event in Hereford, and they bagged one gold medal, four silvers and three bronzes between them.

Youngster Rhys Rowlands was the club’s gold medal hero, topping his weight category in the junior section, while fellow junior competitor Maisy Batchelor won a bronze.

In the adult competition, Ian Palumbo, Ian Thompson, Greg Beckwith and Bret Dean – competing in his first fight for 18 years – all won silver.

Bronzes for Ricky Aldridge and Richard McCarthy completed the club’s medal haul.
